Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
JOHN CHAPTER 15:13
Hello!
How are you? Spring is bursting forth and I am loving all the eruptions of colour everywhere.
Today is Good Friday.
It hasn’t been a particularly good week, but today is a Good Friday.
Today is the day we remember the pain and suffering our Lord went through just so that we could be reconciled to God and be a part of His family.
Friendship has been on my mind a lot lately. This week, my daughter has lost a couple of friends who just decided, out of the blue, that they didn’t want to be mates anymore. She hadn’t done anything wrong (according to the ex-friends); they just didn’t want to hang out with her anymore.
The pain stabbed through my heart as much as hers. How could they do this? Why did they do this? Questions I don’t have the answer to and perhaps never will.
I’ve felt the pain of betrayal, of friends letting me down and even finding out people weren’t actually true friends at all.
Jesus felt all of this too. Imagine walking with someone every day, only to have them turn around and give you up for money. Imagine praying and asking your friends to support you but they fell asleep.
The overwhelming love Christ has for us kept Him going forward to His death. He didn’t get annoyed or upset. He didn’t seek revenge or say, ‘I don’t want to be friends with you anymore.’ No. He just kept going – to His death. He even asked the Father to forgive those who had a part in His death.
Jesus Christ is the ultimate friend. He will never let us down. He will never turn away. Even when we choose scrolling and binge-watching TV over spending time with Him – He’s still there. Even when we don’t represent Him in the best way – He’s still there, arms outstretched waiting to forgive, waiting to extend love to us.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
PHILIPPIANS CHAPTER 2:5
We all need friends, people who will walk with us through the highs and lows of life. I pray that in our seeking of true friends, we will not neglect our very best Friend – the One who laid down His life for us. And as we attempt to be like Him and walk according to His will and not our own, the Lord will help us to be the friend others need too.
Love and blessings xx
