Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee.
ISAIAH CH 26:3
Hey, how are you? Summer temperatures have hit the UK earlier than expected and I am loving it 😊 Give me sticky, sweltering heat over the freezing cold, wearing ten layers but still feeling cold, any day.
These past few weeks I’ve been thinking a lot about the peace of God.
My eldest has completed her GCSE’s and it is amazing to see her walking out the prayers we’ve prayed. She hasn’t been concerned about the exams at all but has carried the peace of God through every test.
I like to use the Blue Letter Bible App when studying as it breaks down the Hebrew or Greek meaning of a word. So, the Hebrew word for peace is salom (shaw-lome) and it means:
- Completeness
- Safety, soundness (in body)
- Welfare, health, prosperity
- Peace, quiet, tranquillity, contentment
- Friendship – of human relationships
– with God especially in covenant relationship
So, when god keeps us in His perfect peace, He guards us contentment; He takes care of our welfare and wellbeing; our relationship with Him is solid. We are complete in Him.
Why does He do this? Because our minds are stayed (resting in, leaning on) on Him and we trust (have confidence in) Him.
Some years ago, John was diagnosed with Prostate cancer. He had an operation to remove his prostate and recovered well. Over the past six months, his PSA results began to rise unexpectedly. It was recommended that he start a course of radiotherapy.
I can’t explain how at ease I felt about this. It was as though John told me he’d banged his funny bone – no big deal. The only way I can explain it is it’s the perfect peace of God.
I know that whatever happens, God is in control and He is holding us through all of this.
When John told the children, they asked a couple of questions and then said ‘OK, we’ll pray about it.’
The joy I feel that my children have the peace of God – that this news didn’t phase them or cause them to fret at all.
Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
ISAIAH 26:4
I know I cannot do life in my own strength. There are too many challenges and curve balls for me to handle.
But with God? I can face the storm. I can be still and know that He is God and he will never leave me nor forsake me.
So far, John has had no side-effects other than feeling more tired than usual and we give God thanks.
I don’t know what your bump in the road is or what your storm is but keep your mind stayed on God. Trust in Him and let His peace envelop you and carry you through.
Love and blessings xx
