I wanted to share with you what God has been revealing to me about intimacy. It’s a word that feels so urgent especially as this new year begins. In relation to Jeremiah 3:33, my study bible says: ‘Where intimacy of communion exists, God answers the call of His own.’ And He will not only answer but will show us great and mighty things. My study bible translates ‘mighty’ as ‘inaccessible’ – so that tells me they are the things I am not privy to when there is a lack on intimacy.
When you are close to someone, they have greater access to you, your innermost thoughts. And so it is with God. When we have that deep level of closeness with Him, He will reveal amazing things to us.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
PSALM 18:3
Again, intimacy is the key to answered prayers. God will deliver His people but the level of intimacy is key to the deliverance. For example, if I’m out of money but need to pay for something I know there are certain people I’d feel embarrassed asking, unsure if they would help or they’d begrudgingly give me something small rather than what I need. However, there are others I know I could call on and they would transfer all of the money right away, no questions asked. That is because my level of closeness with them is at a much deeper level.
If my level of closeness with the Father is at a deep level, I know that whatever I ask of Him I’ll receive it because I know He wants to help/deliver/prosper/heal me. I know that He will not withhold any good thing from me so it is mine. But, if I don’t have intimacy, I will ask half-heartedly or question whether or not He will do this thing for me because I’m unsure of my relationship with Him.

This resonated with me after receiving this word on intimacy. Be encouraged – God wants us to go deeper, to draw closer. He wants us to be sure of our relationship with Him, knowing our God will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory.
